Evelyn Skye's The Hundred Loves of Juliet is an exceptionally simple read narrated from the protagonists’ point of view. Flicking the wand of creative license, Skye retells the famous tragedy of Romeo and Juliet with a flair of her own. After separating from her abusive, controlling husband, Helene takes off to Alaska for time to herself and to fulfill her lifelong wish to writing a novel. She meets the dream beau of her teenage years come to life but with a full load of baggage. Although, not looking for romance Helene's fate has different plans involving the Montague family heir, whom she rescues from a centuries old curse. From the harsh colds of Alaska to romantic getaways in Europe, the star-cross lovers unite again and again adding meaning to each other, and soothing wounds of loss and gain – enriching love, for a last time. Helene and Sebastien remind us of the value to cherish each moment and to love fully. Definitely for anyone desiring a bundled up, cozy read with a hot chocolate.
